Radiocarbon dating - Some important characteristics referring to 14C
Main Article Content
Abstract
Radiocarbon dating - Some important characteristics referring to 14C dating are here discussed, particularly focused on equilibrium between a living system and the exchange reservoir: the equilibrium conditions are quantitatively described. The importance of the knowledge of the features of different 14C reservoirs is stressed and the calibration problem is critically discussed, with the aim of inserting the 14C measures in an absolute chronology. Finally, the present limits of the calibration curve, in connection with the hystory of its basis, are discussed.
