Abstract

A growing number of research scientists from many different disciplines are becoming increasingly aware of the potential of using soil science to answer certain research questions. We wrote this paper in order to allow people not directly involved with the soil science to understand the system of soii micromorphology description. For this purpose, the less complicated terms of soil micromorphology jargon were translated into Italian and the "technical" and less easily understood terms were briefly described. The description systems of Bullock etal. (1985) and FitzPatrick (1993) have here been considered, since these text are the texts most commonly used in recent years, and also the most up to date and probably the most suitable for future evolution, when compared with older systems such as the Brewer system found in texts published in 1964 and 1976.
