One hundred two boreholes were drilled in Grosseto alluvial plain (Tuscany, Italy). Coring evidence shows a sharp lithological change
that is interpreted as a Pleistocene/Holocene unconformity. This suggests the presence of a paleovalley that was eroded by the
Ombrone river during the last glacial interval. Radiocarbon samples and surface’s geometry of lithological changes corroborate this
explanation.
