Abstract

Nicosia C. et al., Italian translation of the terminology contained in "Guidelines for analysis and description of soil and
regolith thin sections" (Stoops, 2003). (IT ISSN 0394-3356, 2010).
Various terminologies have been employed through the decades for description in soil micromorphology and micropedology. Different Italian translations of such terminologies, more or less complete, have been published. Their succession is described in the
Introduction of the present article. Nevertheless, an Italian translation of the most recent terminology, the one contained in the manual “Guidelines for Analysis and Description of Soil and Regolith Thin Sections” (STOOPS, 2003) was missing. Such a translation has therefore been edited, aiming at limiting the introduction of new terms (e.g. terms that were not present in older Italian translations or at least within the Earth Science literature). Moreover, one single term has been proposed for its original English counterpart, trying to
harmonise each term with the other translations belonging to the Neo-Latin language group.
