On the occurrence of Hippopotamus at S. Regolo, Lower Valdarno (Pisa, Italy)
Main Article Content
Abstract
Hippopotamus is reported for the first time from the Lower Valdarno. Its occurrence is testified by a right tibia from S. Regolo. Unfortuntely, the bone lacks an exact stratigraphic record. The characters and proportions of the fossil make it tentatively referable to H. tiberinus Mazza. It is therefore possible that the bone comes from late Early or early Middle Pleistocene sediments which patchily outcrop in the area.
