Struttura geologica dell'area di Tolve (Basilicata) dedotta da dati di superficie e di sottosuolo
Main Article Content
Abstract
Thrust systems and the Plio-Quaternary basin characteristics of the external zone of the south-Apennines chain have been studied by means of surface and subsurface data. The investigated area is located between Tolve and Cancellara, where Meso-Cenozoic units overthrust Pliocene syntectonic deposits. Thrust features can clearly be recognized in many localities where syntectonic growth structures in pliocenic strata in the thrust footwall and oblique ramps are visible. New field surveys and information collected during a tunnel excavation allowed the construction of coulisse sections and of a thrust-parallel section. 3D-geometry and kinematics of the thrust planes have thus been inferred. The small shortening produced by the outcropping (upper) thrust during Plio-Pleistocene times indicates that the major shortening proved by well data is due to deeper structures.
