Attività di una faglia e variazioni laterali delle geometrie di un system tract nel Golfo di Napoli
Main Article Content
Abstract
The interpretation of very high-resolution seismic data reveals stacking pattern variations of a systems tract in the northern part of the Gulf of Naples (Eastern Tyrrhenian margin, Italy). The last late Quaternary sequence was recognized: it is formed of a fall systems tract, a lowstand systems tract, a transgressive systems tract and, finally, a highstand systems tract. The northern part of the Gulf of Naples is characterized by active volcanism and tectonics. Lateral variations of depositional forms are evident across a synsedimentary fault characterized by normal separation. In particular, a parasequence of the transgressive systems tract is replaced by two superposed parasequences in the hangingwall block, and by one small sequence in the footwall block. This is explained by an increase of the accommodation space in the lowered block, and by a simultaneous drop of the accommodation space in the uplifted block.
