Abstract
The paper describes foraminiferal assemblages found in sediments from a borehole drilled at Focene, a locality near the sea north of the Tiber. The sedimentary sequence (128.50 m thick), is made up of clayey and silty-sandy fossiliferous sediments interrupted by a level of barren gravel and sandy silts. The foraminiferal assemblages (lower part of the borehole) are indicative of a circalittoral environment and are of Lower Pleistocene age. The sediments in the upper part of the borehole date to Holocene times and are characterized by the presence of forms (Ammonia spp., Cribroelphidium spp., Cerastoderma edule) showing a sea-bracklsh transition depositional environment.
