Le variazioni del livello del Lago del Fucino (Abruzzo) nel periodo 1783-1862: implicazioni climatiche
Main Article Content
Abstract
Lake Fucino was in a closed basin that was drained in 1875 A.D. Researches carried out in the study area have pointed out that the fluctuations of the lake level during the period 1783-1862 (a.D.) are linked to global climatic events and to atmospheric conditions. Actually it has been observed that the main phases of higher level increase are nearly contemporary with the main phases of advancement of alpine glaciers. It has bean verified that the lake level increases during the period 1783-1787 (a.D.) and the main rise phase finished in 1816 a.D., coincide with acidity peaks as revealed by Greenland ice cores. These peaks are related to the occurrence of large quantity of volcanic aerosols in the atmosphere. The phases of increasing level also correspond to veiled sky periods caused by volcanic dust injected into the atmosphere far away from ltaly.
