La carta geomorfologica della Pianura Padana: nota informativa

Abstract

The preparation of an overall geomorphological map of the Po and Venetian plains, scale 1: 250.000 was started by an inter-university group of about 30 researchworkers in 1985. Publication is planned for the early 1990s. This note explains new aspects which, with respect to the already acquired knowledge, will be highlighted in the new map. The main aim of the present research is the genetic classification of the various landforms of the plain, together with their exact description and a picture of their distribution and interfingering. Instead, their age will not appear, and therefore the map will contribute only indirectly to the solution of morphochronological problems. Some more detailed researches, carried out in a less homogeneous way by single researchers, also deal with problems of stratigraphy, soils, and morphochronoiogy. They often deal with interesting environmental topics, and consider the influence of man impact on the present geomorphic evolution of the area.
