Osservazioni preliminari sull'assetto morfostrutturale dell'edificio vulcanico del Monte Vulture (Basilicata)

Abstract
This paper reports the results of a study carried out to investigate the relationships between the volcanic processes which gave rise to Mount Vulture and the morphostructurai evolution of this volcano on one hand, and the regional tectonic history on the other. The main tectonic and volcano-tectonic alignments were first identified on the basis of aerial stereophotographs and results were checked in the field. Deformatfonal structures in volcanic units are compared with morphological alignments in the volcanic district to obtain elements for the evaluation of the morphostructurai evolution of the area. In agreement with the orientation of morphological alignments, small-scale analyses of fractures in volcanic deposits show that recurrent trends are linked to volcano-tectonic discontinuities related to the genesis of the volcanic edifice.
