Ricostruzione di sequenze morfoevolutive mediante modellazione digitale nell'area nord-orientale di Monte Bulgheria (Campania)

Abstract
The reconstruction of the main landscape morphoevolutional modelling phases in the northeastern part of Mt. Bulgheria (Campania, southern Italy) between the villages of San-Giovanni-a-Piro and Scario, during the Quaternary is proposed on the basis of geological and geomorphological data and subsurface explorations. The structural attitude of the area, characterized by the tectonic superposition of carbonatic successions over mainly terrigenous series, governed the present morphological configuration. Steep slopes along the carbonatic front are bordered by gentler landforms at their foot where a flysch belt is present. Within this belt, filling type mechanisms, due to widespread debris/mud flow phenomena and subsequent cutting processes following the variation of the erosion base-level, caused surface drainage diversions and re-adaptations. A morphoevolutional model of the area using digital procedures has been developed on the basis of geomorphological analyses and the mapping of the main landform types. It has been possible to model a sequence (geomorphing) of 4 main morphoevolutional stages during Quaternary morphogenesis. This resulted from a sequence based on the progressive backward-filtering of landforms - from the youngest to the oldest. The lack of reliably dated elements in the studied area allowed only relative morphochronological reconstructions. It has how-ever been possible to ascribe the first morphogenetic sequences to the post-Emilian by correlating remnants of ancient morphologically mature landforms (which are the highest in elevation at present) with dated coastal landforms of nearby areas.
