Un nouveau muscardin (Gliridae, Rodentia) endemique du Pleistocene superieur de l'ile de Capri (Italie)
Main Article Content
Abstract
This paper describes a new endemic dormouse, Muscardinus malatestai n. sp. from Upper Pleistocene deposits of the island of Capri (Campania, southern Italy). The studied dormouse is almost of the same size of the living continental M. avelianarius (from which it probably derives) but shows a very large M1 and some characters in the dental pattern that differ from the living species. The dormouse is compared with the species M. pliocaenicus and M. avelianarius (in particular with the subspecies M. avelianarius avelianarius and M. avelianarius speciosus).
