Archiviazione e gestione informatica dei dati bibliografici sulle antiche linee di riva marine

Abstract
This paper is a critical description of the software "Shoreline Library 1.0" that has been elaborated for storing bibliographical entries on Quaternary shorelines of Liguria; records on these ancient shorelines are being collected. The basic stack unit is a "card" featuring various "fields" (geographic, morphologic etc.), which can be filled with either numerical or descriptive data, or illustrations (maps, pictures, drawings) referring to single sites. Ancient shorelines of a region are described by means of basic data, which should be made uniform in order to compare them to data from different authors. This is accomplished with synthetic definitions, schemes and concepts all referring to description and chronology of ancient shorelines; bibliographical sources are critically reviewed in order to compare and correlate shorelines one another. This type of record appears to be a versatile tool to manage data and images by author, geographic location, morphologic features, sedimentological characters etc., and is also a complete reference collection which can always be updated. The setting up of this file may be the way to merge all pieces of information on this particular field of Quaternary science and to compare occurrences from different localities.
